I think the biggest lesson to be learned from the Lana Del Rey fiasco is that if you’re going to make art by committee, you better make damn sure it’s really great art. The Sex Pistols and the Strokes were both coldly manufactured cool, these beasts created out of the times they lived in, epitomizing some strange aesthetic of their era, and being one of the best examples of the art they were trying to create. Defining it, but still cheating by reading the definition of it out of a dictionary.

LDR could be accused of a lot of these things. ‘Born to Die’ is a cold and manufactured attempt to define an age, to be important merely by the fact that it SHOULD be. But it’s just not good. And it just becomes meaningless, since if it’s not good it doesn’t serve the one purpose it was supposed to fulfill. The backlash is both disappointment at what could have been and some kind of critic-inflicted hubris: how DARE she try to manufacture art like she owned some indie-alt rock factory? We criticize most not because of how bad she did, but that she got caught doing it.

The real lesson is: don’t get caught.

an interesting article for the sperg part of my brain, I went through doing all of this and ended up deleting about 20 apps I never used, as well as getting certain apps I was ignoring more to the forefront (I can’t remember how long it’d been since I used Pulse; now it’s on my front page and I use it daily).

No one cares, but here’s how things ended up:

and it works. Flipboard has become my go to for Instagram/Tumblr/Facebook viewing, so they get shoved onto page 2 or folders. I find Pulse much more manageable than Reeder for some reason, but I don’t fill it up the same way, so they each fulfill a different purpose, and end up all pouring down into Instagram, anyway. I also didn’t realize how much easier my life was with my RSA and Google Auth tokens out of folders. I knew I used them a good bit, but figured it was never in a hurry so in folders was fine. It’s the little things, I guess.

(I spent almost an hour arranging all of this. During my days off for Christmas. #mysecretspergshame)

So the new store Tate and Yoko is part of the newest Naked and Famous collab, The Flat Head x N&F x Tate and Yoko. And they’re gorgeous. And I want them. And… I’ll probably buy them, because I have a problem.

But the bigger problem is Tate and Yoko is a concept store by Brandon at N&F, so they now have almost EVERYTHING N&F has made. Including the canvas bag. Including the selvedge denim jacket. Including the shirts, the cardigans, the hoodies, the oxfords…

I’m in trouble.
